Wow

I'm completely exhausted today. The weekend was jam packed, with us having a huge Halloween party and all. However, I woke up this morning - barely - and am trying to hang in there at work, although all I can think about is going home and sleeping. Here is a recap of the weekend:

Friday - Layed low and started to organize the house for the party. Rolled up all of the rugs and its a good thing too, since our floors were disgusting on Sunday morning.

Saturday - Started the day off with a 20 mile run 2:43:16, ~8:09 per mile. I felt good...was not as tired as I thought I would be. Continued setting up for the party and getting the house ready. The party was crazy...we had about 150 people in the backyard, in the house and on the porch. Just about everybody was dressed up and the only issue we had was the weather - it was a bit cold, but the heater we rented filled up the tent pretty good. My favorite costume was Dan B.'s...he was holding a plastic plate with a bunch of different carpet samples and a knife/fork. He was a carpet muncher. Very clever. Ended up at the Body Shop - don't ever go there...ever.

Sunday - Woke up to a beautiful day and a 1/4 keg of Sweetwater to finish. Then to Blakes, then to Zocalo, then to Blakes, then to Gilberts, then to Checkers and finally home. I tossed and turned all night, barely getting any sleep. Needless to say, I'm exhausted today. I can't wait to go home and nap.

The party was a success so it was worth it all, but let's not do it again anytime soon.

The God Son

My God Son/Nephew turned 1 last week...I may be biased, but I think he is completely adorable!

Living in Whitney's Hood

If Whitney spiraled any further, she probably would have ended up living on Boulevard in the Old Fourth Ward. This is my 'interesting' neighborhood that has a strip of Section 8 housing running right down the middle. Since I bought my house in April, its been, well, interesting...here are some reasons I enjoy my life in the Old Fourth:
  • Being able to say "That's my house" while watching Ciara's '1-2 Step' video
  • Perfecting the look of 'No, I 'd don't want any crack', with just a squint of the eye and a shake of the head
  • Beginning to understand the drug culture in Atlanta...guys that wear white wife beaters = drug dealers
  • Feeling like you are in Vietnam when you are buzzed by a black Police helicopter who is hovering WAY too close to your house while cops search your backyard for somebody...I think they were looking for a lost dog?
  • Having the only white hooker in your neighborhood walk down your street and tell you that you're hot. Thanks!
  • Getting a huge cut on your leg from a chicken bone thrown back at me while mowing my lawn...(I even had to get a tetanus shot!) And I have a great scar on my leg to prove it!
  • Turning up Kanye West's "Stronger" while at a red light and watching the kin folk enjoy the tune by dancing in the cross walk
  • Having a very nice (and attractive) ATL police officer draw his weapon and search my basement (mind-out-of-gutter) for the person who decided to come on in and say hello (thankfully, he wasn't there)

And that's only been 6 months. Wow. Thanks be to Jesus for my roomie...I couldn't have done it all alone with out his guidance! I'm officially a brotha! Ok, only in my head...

Cleaning House

I've always found it extremely difficult to throw anything away...I have tee shirts from when I was in 9th grade and I still wear some of them. I have a report I did on South Dakota, in 5th Grade, in my night stand - you never know when you may have to pull out a tid-bit of knowledge on the Mount Rushmore State. Last night, I decided to go through my 200 tee-shirts and select a few to send off to the Salvation Army...it was impossibly hard. As I started going through them, I realized this was indeed a difficult task. I managed to put aside 10 tees and a bunch of sweaters I have been carrying around since I actually lived in a place where the temperature was below freezing consistently (that's 12 years ago). I think it was a good start...I barely wear any of this stuff, it's just so hard to get rid of! Once I had the selected few in a bag, I felt OK about sending them off - they are going to a better place where they can bring joy and comfort to folks in Southwest DeKalb. I need to do some housecleaning more often, hopefully it will get easier each time.

Back From The Dead

I first want to apologize to Anonymous for stealing 15 seconds of his/her life. If I could give it back to you, I would. Its been such an active Summer I have neglected my blog 100% and for that I should be flogged and not in a good 'S & M' type way. What have I been up to? I have been training for another marathon and completed my first 20 mile run yesterday. I actually felt great, considering I have been ramping up so quickly. Since it was over 100 degrees in the ATL for all of August, I barely was able to finish a 5 mile run, lest any further. With the marathon in December, I've been pushing my schedule much more aggressively than I would have liked. Minus a number of sore joints and muscles, I'm doing better than I thought I would. I make an solemn vow to try and post here more often...seriously, my life is kind of boring, so if you want to hear about how I can't figure out Hero's or how my running is going or how I will never be in a relationship or how my house is holding up, (I just winterized the lawn this weekend!), check back. I'm the king, nay prince - they are much younger and cuter, no? - of 'Monotony' - a place that exists for all of us, where not much happens and life goes on. I'll work to shake things up, I always say that, let's see what I can fandangle...
